Fine art movers in NYC for paintings, sculpture and antiques

Gotham Moving Systems moves fine art and antiques from its office at 295 Greene Ave in Brooklyn: paintings, metal sculptures, large marble statues and decorative fine art objects of all weights and sizes, across town or across the country. We pack each piece with care, provide specialist services for high-value items, take every precaution when loading and unloading, and include free packing supplies. Fine art storage is there when the new space is not ready.

For fine art moving in Brooklyn, the building side is covered on our Brooklyn movers page, and for galleries and apartments across the river, see our Manhattan movers.

What sets us apart

How we handle fine art moving

Who our fine art movers work for

We serve art dealers, collectors, galleries, auction houses and artists, and we move fine art for households and for businesses, across town or across the country.

What we move

Paintings, metal sculptures, large marble statues, antiques and decorative fine art objects, plus the other expensive and valuable items that travel with them, of all weights and sizes.

Special-packed, not left to chance

Artwork, sculptures, mirrors, and glass and marble items are always special-packed by us, and those hard-to-pack items are included as part of our standard moving package.

Coverage chosen before the move

Basic coverage is free and pays up to 60 cents a pound, which is far less than a painting is worth. Full Value Protection is our most complete plan, and we partner with third-party providers when a collection needs more.

In more detail

How we handle a fine art move

Start with what you have

The quote is built from what you tell us about the pieces. Call, fill in the quote form, schedule a video tour, or upload photos or a video of the work. Give us the approximate size and weight of each piece, how it is framed or mounted, and where it is going. A photo of the route it has to take through the building helps as well.

Packing fine art

Our fine art movers pack your things with care and use specialist services for high-value items. Artwork and sculptures are wrapped and packed in boxes. Glass and marble items are packed in cardboard, up to 4 feet. Packing supplies and wrapping material are free, and the hard-to-pack items are always part of the standard moving package.

Loading and unloading

Fine art is most at risk on the way in and out of the building, so we take every precaution when loading and unloading, and we use the right equipment so nobody is improvising with a heavy statue on a staircase. The crew is trained, and our best practices are the same on every job.

Antiques, instruments and the one-of-a-kind

Our white glove service also covers designer furniture, expensive instruments, custom-made items and expensive collections. We also provide specialty moving services, such as antique moving. If a piece is unusual, describe it. Every fine art move is one of a kind, and each person has their own circumstances and expectations.

Galleries, auction houses and private collections

We serve art dealers, collectors, galleries, auction houses and artists, for households and for businesses. A gallery moving a show has different needs from a collector moving a home, and we plan each move around your timetable and budget. Local and long distance moves are both on the table, and fine art storage is available when the new space is not ready.

Before move day

  • Photograph each piece as it is now, so there is a clear record of its condition
  • Gather any paperwork that goes with the work, and keep it with you
  • Clear and measure the path: doorways, turns in the stairs and the elevator
  • Settle the coverage in advance: Basic coverage is free but pays only 60 cents a pound, so ask about Full Value Protection and our third-party partners

Every move starts with a call to 212-732-1234. Tell us what you are moving and we will tell you how we would do it.

Common Questions

Questions about fine art moving

It starts with the quote. Call 212-732-1234, fill in the quote form, schedule a video tour, or upload photos or a video of the pieces, and our fine art movers will answer your questions and build the quote from what you tell us. From there we work with you every step of the way, with the information you need to keep the move on schedule and on budget.

Accidents can happen at any time, anywhere, which is why fine art should only travel with licensed movers. Gotham Moving Systems is completely licensed, bonded and insured. Our crews get comprehensive training in moving and packing methods, artwork and sculptures are wrapped and packed in boxes, glass and marble pieces are packed in cardboard, and we take every precaution when loading and unloading.

Moving fine art without a reputable mover is one of the most stressful jobs there is, and choosing an unskilled one exposes you to damage and expense. Excellent insurance and real skill are what separate good art movers from exceptional ones. Every fine art move is different, so before we start, our crew is trained to understand what each client wants.

Yes. Fine art storage and relocations are both part of the job. Pieces are double wrapped and kept in our climate-controlled, secure storage facilities until the new space is ready, then delivered to you.

It depends on what you are moving and the distance it travels, so the quote is built around your pieces. Free packing supplies and wrapping material are included, and so are all transportation, gas and tolls. Tell us about each piece, its size and its weight, when you ask for a quote.

Our white glove moving service uses special handling and top-of-the-line packing and protection materials for designer furniture, fragile items, antiques, expensive instruments, custom-made items and expensive collections. If a piece is valuable, hard to replace or hard to pack, tell us about it when you ask for a quote and it is packed with the same care as a painting.
