Local Moving
Apartment, brownstone and house moves across the city
Local Moving →Gotham’s Brooklyn movers are based at 295 Greene Avenue in Clinton Hill, and we move homes and offices across Brooklyn.

Gotham Moving Systems is a family-owned Brooklyn moving company at 295 Greene Ave Ste 2 in Clinton Hill, moving homes and offices across the borough, run by a team of industry veterans with over 20 years of experience.
Being locally owned and operated means we understand what it takes to move in and around Brooklyn: walk-ups, brownstones, parking and the elevator buildings that ask for a certificate of insurance. Local moves are charged at hourly rates, and packing, storage and long distance moves all run from the same office.
For lofts and walk-ups a few miles east, see moves in Bushwick lofts and walk-ups, or read the Brooklyn neighborhoods guide.
Much of Brooklyn is stairs, and a narrow staircase with a turn at the landing takes time. Tell us the floor and the stairs at each end when you ask for a quote.
Alternate side parking and blocks with nowhere to stop mean a carry from the truck to your door. Mention it when you book, so the time is part of the plan.
Elevator buildings across the borough often require a certificate of insurance from the mover. Check with the building and we send what it asks for.
When you call, we can send one of our moving consultants to your home to see what is moving and give you a free, no-obligation quote.

Neighborhoods and towns: Park Slope, Bushwick, Greenpoint, Brooklyn Heights, Sunset Park.

Commercial Moving →Brooklyn is where our trucks start the day, so most of what follows is what we deal with on our own doorstep.
Park Slope and Carroll Gardens are full of brownstones, limestones and row houses, and you find the same kind of building across much of the borough. Many are split into floor-through apartments, and a few have a stoop, a front garden or a garden-level entrance. Each of those adds a carry to every box and every piece of furniture.
A narrow staircase with a turn at the landing is the usual slow point. A sofa that goes up in one piece in a different building may have to be turned, tilted or taken apart here, and a bed frame or wardrobe that cannot make the turn is taken apart and put back together at the other end. Tell us the floor and the stairs at both addresses and we plan the crew around it.
The taller buildings in Brooklyn have elevators, and the high-rises are mostly rentals and condos. These buildings often ask the mover for a certificate of insurance and want the elevator booked ahead for moving day. Ask the building management what it needs early, then tell us, and we send what the building asks for.
If you are moving between a walk-up and a doorman building, say so when you call. The two ends of the move can have very different rules, and it is easier to plan around them than to find out on the morning.
On a lot of Brooklyn blocks there is nowhere good to stop a truck, and alternate side parking can change where we can stand from one day to the next. A longer carry from the truck to your door takes time, so it belongs in the plan from the start. Confirm the parking restrictions for the block at both addresses before moving day, and mention anything you know about the street when you ask for a quote.
Our office is on Greene Avenue, so the brownstones and older walk-ups around it are home turf. Greenpoint mixes newer waterfront buildings with older walk-ups inland, and Park Slope is brownstones and limestones, many split into floor-through apartments.
Bushwick has frame houses, converted industrial buildings and newer mid-rise rentals, and we have a separate page for it. Sunset Park is row houses and walk-ups up the hill, with industrial and commercial buildings by the water. For a commercial move there, send us a layout of the new space. In Brooklyn Heights the same questions apply as anywhere else: floors, stairs, elevator, and where the truck can stop.
A move from Brooklyn into Manhattan or Queens is a local move, and so is a move from one Brooklyn neighborhood to the next. Moving out of the state is a long distance move, and our long distance service covers nationwide moves. If your dates do not line up, we keep your belongings in our climate-controlled, secure storage until the new place is ready.
We can pack for you too, and unpack at the other end. Do the whole home, or just the kitchen and the breakable pieces. Packing and unpacking is on the services page.
Call us and we can send one of our moving consultants to your home to see what is moving and give you a free, no-obligation quote. If a visit is hard to arrange, schedule a video tour or send photos or a video of your inventory.
Yes. Tell us the floor, the stairs, whether there is an elevator, and whether the building wants a certificate of insurance. Those details change how many people we send and how long the job takes.
