How a move differs from one area to the next

The standards stay the same everywhere. The problems on the ground change.

Brooklyn and Bushwick

Brownstones, row houses and older walk-ups mean stairs, stoops and a turn at the landing. Elevator buildings across the borough often want a certificate of insurance and an elevator booked in advance. Parking is the other half of the job, so confirm the restrictions at both addresses.

Manhattan

Doorman buildings, five-floor walk-ups, service entrances and set move hours. Most of the planning is about the building, not the apartment. Tell us the rules your building gave you and we plan the day inside them.

Queens

Apartments in the west, houses and driveways further east. Western Queens follows the same building rules as the rest of the city. Out east there is easier access, more volume and a longer day.

Nassau County, Westchester and Long Island

Bigger homes, garages, basements and attics, and a longer drive. These moves stay inside New York State, so they are intrastate moves under state rules. Storage is available if your dates do not line up, and the Long Island office in Valley Stream handles the island.

What to have ready when you call

  • The two addresses, and the floor at each end.
  • Whether each building has an elevator, and whether it asks the mover for a certificate of insurance.
  • Anything you know about parking on either block.
  • A rough idea of what is moving, including the attic, basement or garage if there is one.
  • Whether you want packing and unpacking, or storage in the middle.

Brooklyn is where we are based, and Brooklyn and Bushwick are areas we frequently travel to. Our New York moving service also covers Manhattan, Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island, and each of those has its own page. If your area is not listed, call 212-732-1234 and ask.

Each has its own challenges. Brooklyn has brownstone stairs and tight parking. Manhattan has five-floor walk-ups and buildings that ask for a certificate of insurance. We know the twists and turns of climbing up 5-floor walk-ups in Manhattan just as well as we know the drive up and around the streets of Queens.
